Wear & Tear
Communication Design
Overview
How many design considerations are lost to time, scratched out, burned from existence? Is there beauty that can be found in the holes of our shirts, the creases of of our shoes, the stretch marks in out socks? This concept book explores the hidden design elements in our everyday items, valorizing the forgotten and applauding craftsmanship that stood the test of time.
Approach
Designed as an exploration into the nuances of design, this project focused on the items I hold most dear - delving into my wardrobe of hand-me-downs, pre-loved, and forgotten treasures to uncover their inner beauty. By categorizing these cherished possessions into various washing instructions, I sought to highlight the different design elements at play. This process allowed me to sift through the familiar and the forgotten, reappreciating the stories and meanings woven into each well-worn garment. Through this exercise, I discovered a newfound respect for the designed objects in my life - not just for their current state, but for the layers of wear, tear, and history that give them character and meaning. What may have once been considered flaws or imperfections were reframed as marks of a life well-lived, inviting a more nuanced understanding of design's role in our everyday experiences.
